SGRT Facility, IIT - Madras
SGRT Facility was established in the year 2013 in Chennai as a collaborative effort of Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras and Glazing Society of India for the research and testing of Glass, Glazing Products and its associated materials used in Buildings. The SGRT Facility was established with the fund support from GSI Float Glass Manufacturing Members and GSI Association Partner, Federation of Safety Glass (FOSG).
The facility in-houses the capacity for research and testing of the following glass, glazing products and its associated materials as per Indian and International Standards
- Safety Glass including Laminated Glass and Toughened Glass for Quality and Structural Performance
- Float Glass for Quality Performance
- Insulated Glazing Unit (IGU) for Quality and Structural Performance
- Heat Strengthened Glass for Quality and Structural Performance
- Sealants
- Interlayers including PVBs, etc
- Frame materials for quality performance including Steel, Aluminum, etc
- Thermo-Optical Properties of Coated Glass (except emissivity)
- Structural Analysis of Glass Buildings
SGRT Facility, carries out systematic research and development activities related to glass elements and its various functional performance, high rise glass buildings, integrating building physics with structural glazing, performance evaluation of glass facades, wind load and earthquake effect on glass buildings and many others.
